BC Para-Alpine Ski Team kicks off the season with a new look!
The BC Para-Alpine Ski Team, (BCPAST) launches into the 2009/2010 season this weekend with their first training camp in Whistler, BC (Saturday December 5th through Tuesday December 8th). The team will be unveiling a whole new look with new team jackets and team logo at a kick-off reception on Sunday, December 6th at ‘21 Steps’ restaurant in Whistler Village.
“There is so much energy around our team right now and so many opportunities to capitalise on this season as we head towards the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. It’s a very rewarding experience to be able to share our province with the world and we’re very proud to show how we’re helping to build Canada’s athletes for the future,” says Sian Blyth, DSABC’s High Performance Director. “We want to show our community, and all those people watching, what a great Para-Alpine ski team BC has and to make people aware of the many opportunities that the Disabled Skiers Association of BC has to offer. This new team look will certainly get us noticed!”
This year’s team consists of 9 outstanding athletes from across the province, including Terrace BC native Caleb Brousseau. “I am so excited to have been named to the development team this year and it is going to be very cool to wear the new team colours! I am proud to be a part of this great group of athletes,” says Brousseau.
This season will provide tremendous opportunities for all of the BCPAST athletes as the team continues to build on the success of DSABC’s High Performance program.
The BCPAST is part of the Provincial High Performance program “Building our Best” which was initiated in 2004 in response to the recognized gap in athlete development between the recreational skier and the high performance athlete. DSABC also wanted to address the need to provide more support to athletes on the Provincial Team in order to promote athlete advancement to the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team. It was acknowledged that this initiative would help to realize the greatest number of British Columbian athletes on the podium at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games and beyond.
Building our Best was launched with funding from Game Plan BC, a program supported by 2010 Legacies Now and now under the leadership of Canadian Sport Centre Pacific.
The Disabled Skiers Association of British Columbia (DSABC) is committed to promoting the sport of skiing as a form of recreation and rehabilitation for all participants, providing recreational and competitive skiing opportunities for people with disabilities in the province of British Columbia.
