Whistler Adaptive Sports Program partners with American Friends of Whistler Board Members Bill and Barbara Norman to launch new program
Whistler, January 20, 2010 – The Whistler Adaptive Sports Program announced the creation of the latest program in the roster of its adaptive sports offerings. Teaming up with Bill and Barbara Norman of the American Friends of Whistler, they have launched the “Anything’s Possible” Program which is aimed at providing military personnel with an introduction to adaptive sports post-injury.
“We are thrilled to be working with Bill and Barbara Norman on this exciting new project,” said
“Anything’s Possible” is a program aimed at providing an introduction to adaptive sports and recreation for individuals from the military who have recently incurred injuries. Based on three to five day multi-sport camps, “Anything’s Possible” will run several times per year. The soldiers will be housed in the new Whistler Athletes Centre and Lodge and be given the opportunity to experience all Whistler has to offer as a premier Mountain Resort. Initially offered to members of the Ft. Lewis, WA Warrior Transition Battalion, the program has the potential to attract participants from the Canadian and British military.
“Whistler is such a beautiful place. Barbara and I wanted to be able to share our love for this community with the soldiers from Ft. Lewis, WA, who have sacrificed so much for our safety and security”, commented Bill Norman, Board Member of the American Friends of Whistler. “After learning of the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program and its’ world class programming, we envisioned “Anything’s Possible”. We sincerely hope that the soldiers and their loved ones experience the joy of being in the mountains and learn some new skills that will carry them into the future”.
The launch of the “Anything’s Possible” Program can be directly attributed to the creation of the Whistler Athletes’ Centre. “The legacy potential of this new facility, and the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program’s footprint in it, is only just being realized. The ability to host groups, such as the one visiting this weekend from Ft. Lewis, WA, will continue to expand as we explore all of the programming potential in the new facility,” continued Chelsey Walker, Executive Director of the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program. “To be able to attract new participants and user groups, military or otherwise, will ensure a sustainable future for our organization”.
