Olympic and Paralympic Tickets — accessible seats still available!

Olympic and Paralympic Tickets accessible seats still available!

The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) is committed to providing accessible venues and services for both the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and extends a warm welcome to spectators with disabilities.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the 2010 Winter Games. Accessible seats are still available for most sessions and can be purchased by phone (1-800-TICKETS) by Canadian residents as of November 7, 2009.  And for one weekend only, “locals” from Squamish to Mt. Currie will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase Whistler-based Olympic tickets from 10:00 am on October 24 to 5:00 pm on October 25.

All venues have been reviewed for accessibility. This includes consideration for persons who are blind or visually impaired, persons who are deaf or hard of hearing and persons with mobility and/or agility impairments.

Accessible transportation will be available to spectators for mountain venues. At the venues, the following accessible features will be available for both the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games:

accessible seating options (with adjacent companion seating)

  • accessible washroom facilities and amenities
  • accessible connecting pathways that are cleared of snow and with limited grades (not exceeding 8 per cent)
  • assistive hearing devices, available for loan at the information booths
  • wheelchairs, available for loan at the information booths
  • Braille and large-print versions of our spectator guide, available at the information booths
  • an accessible shuttle service, within outdoor venues where travel over longer distances is required
  • dog relief areas for assistance / guide dogs
  • sign language interpretation, available for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies
  • live audio description services, to be provided in English and French for the Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies for spectators with visual impairments (receivers will be available on loan at the information booths)

All the elements are in place for spectators with a disability to attend and enjoy everything the Games have to offer. Vancouver 2010 invites you to share in the Olympic and Paralympic journey with us. Residents of the Squamish to Mount Currie region who register a ticketing account before Friday, October 23 will have an exclusive opportunity to take advantage of a special “Locals” Whistler Olympic ticket offer starting Saturday, October 24. This two-day offer is the best remaining chance for residents in the region to get tickets for Olympic sporting events in Whistler and is in addition to the third — and final — phase of ticket sales, which start November 7.

Looking forward to welcoming you in 2010!
