Human laboratory to speak in Whistler

Author Bruce Lourie ingested a chemical soup and then wrote a book about his experience.

He will be in Whistler next week to speak about the book he co-wrote after ingesting non-stick chemicals, mercury and pesticides.

The book is called Slow Death By Rubber Duck and it was co-authored in 2009 by Rick Smith, who ingested bisphenol A, flame-retardants and triclosan as his contribution to the research for the book. Over a four day period the pair allowed everyday chemicals found in personal care products, clothing and food to enter their bodies, then they tested their blood to discover how the substances built up in their systems.

Lourie was invited to speak in Whistler by staff members at the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program (WASP), and Monday’s (Jan. 10) event at Millennium Place is a fundraiser for the organization.
